(Hosting-NewsWire.com, July 26, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA - Revolutionary research reported by Science Daily shows that the oxytocin hormone, which has developed a love-hate image for many people, has the potential to be used in weight-loss treatments with proper planning and further tests.
At the moment, it is believed that this hormone is one that influences how we react in terms of social interactions with other people and some even believe it to be the factor in how we love. But scientists are attempting to use it to affect weight-loss in a person, which could just make it the miracle hormone many had regarded it to be.
According to a study, of which the results were produced during The Endocrine Society’s 94th Annual Meeting in Houston on June 25th, oxytocin is shown to help regulate food intake and energy metabolism without having an adverse effect on the animals it was tested on.
There is not any doubt in the fact that being overweight is a cause for a number of diseases and complicated health issues. Like heart disease, cancer, diabetes and other various fatal conditions being associated with the lack of a healthy lifestyle, oxytocin could prove to be of critical importance if all goes well.
Since 1980, the World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that obesity rates have doubled meaning that more than 1.4 billion adults are overweight and a little less than half at the obese level.
The major revelation that seemed to be of favourable conditions for the human body was how the hormone actually effected the eating habits of the animals in a positive manner by reducing the amount they ate, resulting in gradual weight loss. It also showed a reduction in fat in the liver along with improved glucose tolerance and better blood flow through vessels.
As of yet, the study is still in its initial phases and with more testing and research, oxytocin may hold the key to finding a sustainable and healthy treatment for weight-loss.
