(Hosting-NewsWire.com, September 23, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Zynga Inc. will acquire gaming competitor “A Bit Lucky”, the digital gaming studio whichcreated Facebook-based games like Lucky Train. Although full details of the acquisition have not been disclosed, Zynga announced that, “More than 20 A Bit Lucky employees currently based in San Mateo, California will join Zynga’s San Francisco division.”
This acquisition will only further the changes that Zynga is making as they look to diversify to other games. Zynga is the maker of “Casual Games” such as “Words with Friends” and “Farmville”.
The recent acquisition comes as newly hired John Tobias, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise works on new titles for the company. This according to Zynga executive Bill Jackson. The well known game publisher is planning on diversifying their product line, even as user number of their most popular titles such as “FarmVille” and “CityVille” have seen a drop in users. The drop in usage has created questions for many about the popularity of casual gaming, and if it will be as popular in the future.
Zynga currently is in litigations with competitor Electronic Arts (EA). Electronic Arts sued Zynga last month saying, “It unfairly copied elements of EA’s Sims game.” Shortly after, Zynga then accused Electronic Arts of breaching a former settlement they had with Zynga. The breach of settlement accusations deal with how the company can hire EA employees. Unfortunately, for Zynga, those details were not supposed to be made public and Zynga inadvertently disclosed.
