(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 20, 2012 ) Los Angeles, California -- Facebook has been a true gold mine for businesses so far this year. In fact, launching a fan page on this top social network has helped thousands of savvy businesses improve brand awareness, web traffic and sales!
When it comes to marketing, Facebook has everything that a business person could hope for because it provides a direct connection to potential clients and customers. The big plus is that they're your fans, and what better people to do business with than your own fans.
Best of all is that marketing on Facebook can be absolutely free. In fact, it's free to start a fan page and get the conversation started, and there's always the chance that something you post can go viral and take off on its own momentum, drastically increasing your visibility in the cyberspace.
However, all is not as it seems on the surface because not only is it hard to acquire fans, but it turns out that it is also hard to keep them! In fact, once you do have them on your list, with the click of a mouse they can be gone.
It can get worse than that though, because you can have your entire account canceled if Facebook decides that you've established it for the sole purpose of promoting, leaving you to start all over again from scratch with a brand new account.
So in a recent interview on the topic Amine Rahal, CEO of IronMonk Solutions was able to pass on a few words of advice on fan retention for someone who's just starting out getting their feet wet promoting their business on this highly popular social networking site.
He pointed out that, “Facebook users are far more savvy than they used to be, so make sure that your posts don't come across as being too promotional. Keep it light, interesting and fun to read. Another bit of advice he passed on to help with friend retention is to, “mix it up to keep it exciting. Don't get stuck on one topic line but rather keep people surprised and interested in seeing and reading what you post by being diverse and also make a point not to over-post.”
Another trick that he often uses to keep his Facebook fans interested is to search online news venues for topic related stories. Short posts that are written in a journalistic format that put a positive spin on certain products or services.
Finally the last thing you want to keep in mind before you get started is that direct marketing on Facebook only pays off over the long run. Starting a fan page is quick, but building a loyal and targeted fanbase takes time. Just like in real life, you cannot force people to be your friend!
