(Hosting-NewsWire.com, August 12, 2013 ) Las Vegas , Nevada -- One common email marketing strategy used by brands to get subscribers is to offer leads an incentive, such as a freebie, in exchange for their email address. Under this tactic, leads are agreeing to receive marketing material in exchange for something that they find valuable. While freebie email marketing tactics can be very effective in helping brands expand their reach and build customer relationships, EmailMarketingServices.org warns that this sort of incentive-based email marketing can also backfire.
According to Email Marketing Services, offering freebies in exchange for email addresses only works if the incentive is of value to likely customers. The website gives the example of an ecommerce website providing a discount as an incentive for signing up to an email list. This incentive, they say, is an effective freebie because it is only attractive to people who are already interested in making a purchase. By contrast, incentives such as free reports or articles may not be effective for freebie marketing because they often appeal to people who are unlikely to ever become customers.
"All sorts of freebies can be very effective for getting email subscribers," says an adviser from Email Marketing Services. "But marketers need to remember that the goal of email marketing isn't to get subscribers. The goal is to get more sales, improve customer service, or build customer relationships."
Email Marketing Services warns that using freebies to get email subscribers could backfire because the email list may become overrun with people who aren't likely to become customers. This makes it harder to manage the email campaign.
"Instead of focusing on getting as many subscribers as possible by blindly throwing out freebies, marketers should instead think about what sort of freebie would appeal to their ideal customer. With these freebies, marketers will not only get more subscribers, but be more likely to get results with the subscribers they do get."
