Businesses currently need strategies that will allow them to tap into the social media market and throw the respective enterprises, say social media analysts. "Those in business do not seem to take advantage of this opportunity because they don't get into social media with a strategy," he said.
He stated that those who understand they need to send their message across the internet through social media have a better understanding of how to achieve their corporate strategy in general.

Mugendi also noted that the Social media must find a way to compliment general company strategy, and this all points to some companies not needing to waste their time with social media if it truly does not fit. While social media has become an integral part of society, there are companies that are too small, or so niche, that they need not waste time cluttering up social media with their respective message.
Overall 61% of all small businesses are not seeing returns on their social media activity, according to reports from Manta, a US-based social media company.
"What companies don't understand is that social media has little return on investment in relation to direct sales. Statistics have shown that only four percent of followers can be converted into direct clients," Mugendi stated.
