1. TapTapSee
This Free iPhone app is designed for visually impaired persons who simply take a picture of an item and the app verbally describes it.

2. Magnify
Magnify is like having a magnifying glass with you all the time, but even better. The app uses the flash of a phone’s camera to light up the object, has auto-focus capability and can also make the picture appear in negative format for higher contrast.

3. Glucose Buddy
For optimal health, it is critical that diabetics maintain blood sugar levels within a strict range. The Glucose Buddy is a free iPhone app designed to help diabetics manage their disease better. Users can input glucose numbers and insulin dosages as well as activities to help them see trends and share the information with others if needed. The app will also remind the diabetic to take their glucose readings at pre-determined times.

4. Symptom Checker Virtual Nurse
Probably all of us have wondered at one time or another if a medical ailment was serious enough to see a doctor or not. That makes this free Android virtual nurse powered by Harvard Medical School a program that everyone can use.

5. PTSD Coach
The medical profession is recognizing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a very real and very problematic disorder. Anyone who has undergone a traumatic event, not just war veterans, can suffer from PTSD. Although it does not take the place of professional assistance, this free app for both iPhone and Android devices advertises that it will help answer questions about PTSD and help the sufferer as well as their family and friends. It was developed by the VA's National Center for PTSD and the DoD's National Center for Telehealth and Technology

6. Medicine Reminder
Who has not forgotten to take their medicines on time? This free app for Android devices reminds which medicine to take and any specific things the patient should know, like to take the medicine with food. It even has a snooze just in case the user needs to wait a few minutes.

7. Food Allergies
Allergies to food has got to be one of the worst disabilities! It always seems like the best tasting food is what makes us sick. “Living With Food Allergies” is a free Android app full of information from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) discussing diagnosis, treatments and a section on where to find even more information.

8. Pollen Allergies
Pollen is a serious downer for a lot of people. The user can enter their location and Pollen.com’s free Android app will keep them up to date on pollen levels in their area along with the local asthma index and cough and cold monitoring.

9. Speak It!
Speak It! is the only app on this list that is not free, but at $1.99 it is cheap enough for a visually impaired person with an iPhone to get a lot of return for their money. Speak It! is a text to speech program that audibly reads emails, news articles, documents and text uploaded to it. One excellent benefit to this program is that it allows the user to multi-task on their device while Speak It! is reading the document.

10. Verbally
Verbally was developed to enable a person without the ability to speak to communicate. The user types in what they want to say and the program reads the text audibly for others to hear making it much easier to have conversations with multiple people. This app is free for iPhone devices and a premium version is available.
