(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 06, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg, who is also an open source advocate, stopped by Memeburn offices to speak on the subject of WordPress falling into the blogging platform and moving onto the CMS of choice for nearly 15% of the web.
The 29-year-old entrepreneur, who was named Forbes' 30 Under 30 in Media, stated WordPress 10 years prior.
“I had to push it on a lot of people,” he says. “I built blogs for my friends and basically forced them to use them”.
In order to get the to true roots of WordPress, one has to go back further, as Mullenweg had discovered an open-source platform titled B2/cafelog, which was authored by Corsican Michael Valdrighi. As Mullenweg and Mike Little found out that Valdrighi had gone offline for a while, they took it upon themselves to fork the code and WordPress was born. When Valdrighi returned online and saw what they did, he endorsed the concept, calling WordPress an official version of B2/cafelog. He is still listed among the developer emeritus on the WordPress Blog page.
Since then, WordPress has gone through changes, alterations, and iterations, according to Mullenweg, and the organization has adapted a lot throughout the years. One of the largest curves to handle for the company owners was dealing with the rise of the smartphone. “We were one of the first open-source apps on iOS,” he says, “and at first we thought we could just use a scaled down dashboard, but that really didn’t work”. WordPress therefore decided to make things as simple as possible.
Mullenweg also stated that the organization has been focused on making sure the at all mobile attempts have strong cloud integration “Everybody jokes about that old story about the world only needing five computers, but when you think about it, that’s where we’re heading”.
When one thinks about it, it all makes sense, while our mobile devices may always have general computing power, individuals will become increasingly reliant on the cloud.
