(Hosting-NewsWire.com, February 24, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- According to the latest numbers of search usage and results, Google is still far-and-away the most used search engine in the world. The company outreaches all its competitors by leaps and bounds. However, over the last three months, its share of the overall unique searches has found itself dipping below 80%, which suggests it has been losing some searches. That being said, it still holds an enormous over other search websites, that fight over the scraps of searches.
Yandex has found its way up the list, surpassing Microsoft's Bing for the first time since numbers have been compiled on the statistics.
The figures were gathered from comScore, and have emerged on GigaOm. Much of the focus of those in the industry is on the fact Yandex has found its way past Bing for the fourth spot. Baidu sits in the No. 2 spot, while Yahoo is still holding out at No. 3.
The numbers break down as so: Google: 114.7 billion searches, 65.2% share; Baidu: 14.5 billion searches, 8.2% share; Yahoo: 8.6 billion searches, 4.9% share; Yandex: 4.8 billion searches, 2.8% share; Microsoft: 4.5 billion searches, 2.5% share.
Even more concerning for Microsoft is the fact that Bing's numbers are lower than they even look, as the numbers for Microsoft include that flagship search engine, as well as other affiliated engines.
Yandex had been climbing steadily over the last quarter of 2012, and it appeared it was only a matter of time before it would pass up the struggling Microsoft search engine. The latest numbers essentially only convey what everyone had been assuming would occur sooner or later.
Bing is not the only one struggling, as Baidu and Yahoo have also seen drops in their total usage. Baidu has been seeing some recent recovery with the latest numbers, while Yahoo continues to dip. All fo that means that Yandex is essentially the only consistently improve search engine, thanks to its growing market of users in Russia. Google itself has dipped below 80%, which was unheard of in previous years.
