(Hosting-NewsWire.com, January 05, 2013 ) Selangor, Malaysia -- Malaysia and India have for the past two years had more than a simple business relationship. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to India and Manmohan Singh's visit to Malaysia, in 2010 and 2011 respectively, the countries have shared more of a strategic partnership.
The leaders are slated to meet yet again, this time in Malaysia, for a two-day Asean-India Commemorative Summit, in order to speak on issues of bilateral trade as well as multi-dimensional ties that can bolster each country.
Najib arrived in Malaysia recently, accompanied by wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, International Trade and Industry Minister, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri G. Palanivel, and special envoy of infrastructure to India and Southern Asia Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.
Najib and Asean heads of state will meet for a commemoration of the 20 years of relationship between the nation states.
The summit will allow leaders to push for adoption of Asean-India Vision Statement and take recommendations from the Asean-India Eminent Persons Group (AIEPG).
Other than attending the gala, cultural programmes, and flagdown ceremony, Najib is further scheduled to meet with the Malaysian-Indian Chief Executive Officers at a forum.
Mustapa stated to the media that the summit and forum were in order to progress relations, and was the was first launched in Putrajaya.
"The forum serves as a platform for the private sectors of both countries to interact with the government. In addition to addressing issues that can hamper business conduct, it also acts as an avenue for CEOs to collaborate on strategic partnership in projects either in Malaysia or India as well as in third-country markets."
Mustapa stated three particular projects were being looked at by the CEOs and would be a significant part of the discussions. Talent development cooperation between Multimedia Development Corporation, as well as Indian National Association of Software and Service Companies would be talked over. Education projects by Manipal International University in Malaysia would also be a point of discussion.
"India is one of Malaysia's important trading partners. Since 1998, it has been Malaysia's largest export destination in South Asia. Bilateral trade between the two countries increased more than six-fold between 2002 and last year."
