(Hosting-NewsWire.com, December 23, 2012 ) Alpharetta, GA -- It is becoming more and more necessary that companies, and individuals within the business sector, develop proper data recovery strategies. The strategy is important because evermore information is being stored online, and one glitch or virus can compromise an individual, company, or even an industry that does not have a proper backup strategy. It is not only large companies that need concern themselves with the possibility of compromise or mishap. The Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) market must also take into consideration the fact that their information must be protected.
It is still oft overlooked necessity of businesses for the SME industry; yet, without proper backup, the consequences are often crippling or a death-blow to a company. It is particularly relevant given that the SME data is often within PCs and portable devices. Some tend to hold off on backup systems because the task seems large-scale or too difficult. But, the evolution in technology has created a much easier-to-transition and cost effect solution to backing up one's data. In fact, the entire process is more automated than ever.
Boston Computer reported that 60% of companies that have their data lost or compromised shut down within 6 months of the incident. Strategic Research Institute claims that 93% of companies who lost their data for 10 days or more were forced to file for bankruptcy within a year. It is simply that companies are not capable to get back to work soon enough, and often have to allocate too much energy to partial recovery, to justify continued work.
Many SME companies understand the importance of backups, and yet still many do not handle the task, as they lack basic understanding. It does not help that many do not budget for the necessity of a recovery plan. As a result, many small or medium-sized businesses know they need a system, but do not have one.
Strategies range from rotational backup to cloud protection. Both can be highly useful depending on a company's size and need. While rotational is a strong basic backup system, it lacks some of the perks of cloud protection (like protection for mobile devices). Cloud coverage has a more extensive impact, but takes longer to recover as it must be downloaded. But solutions are not always standard or one-size-fits-all solutions. There are customizable strategies that can work for particular companies that would not work for others.
One thing is certain, in highly competitive markets, it is best to be prepared, rather than be scrambling to recover what one has lost. That is why backup strategies are so important to each SME.
