(Hosting-NewsWire.com, December 01, 2012 ) Hood River, OR -- Simon Cowell is the latest victim of the recent “swatting” trend brought police to the TV star’s home.
Prank calling has been around for quite some time, but the new form of prank calling that is hitting celebrities is becoming dangerous.
Most are likely used to Simon being the dealer of rather sharp humor; however, now Mr. Cowell is getting a pointed dose of his own medicine (in a sense) as this unfunny joke has caused him quite a headache.
‘Swatting’ is where police are called by celebrities’ homes and are told to of a fake crime being committed. According to the Inquirer, the TV talent is simply the latest victim of this swatting trend.
The pranks are known as swatting because the callers report terrible crimes being committed by armed individuals, which trigger dispatchers to call on fully armed SWAT teams to be called to take of the situation.
Simon Cowell lives in Los Angeles and the prank-callers apparently decided it was time to send him a message (in a sense). Police officers rushed to the Cowell home Sunday following the phone report of “unknown trouble.” The police who arrived on the scene were told by Cowell that present, but that there was no disturbance.
“The caller reported that someone within the house had been tied up with duct tape and needed assistance,” said Lincoln Hoshino of the Beverly Hills Police Department.
Other victims of the ‘swatting’ prank wave have included Ashton Kutcher, Miley Cyrus, and Justin Bieber. By all accounts, the Cowell swat was considered rather amateurish by comparison.
The call was so ridiculously done it had no credibility with the dispatcher,” officer Hoshino said, although officers were sent to check out the report just in case. “The dispatcher immediately suspected it was a fake.”
