(Hosting-NewsWire.com, December 02, 2012 ) Hood River, OR -- The local authorities warned residents of an apparent scamming attempt that occurs during the holiday season. A Pine Township woman recently told the Porter County Police that she received a call from an individual identifying herself as a postal worker from the Michigan City post office. The woman told the resident that she must give her date of birth and address so a package could be delivered to her house. The Pine Township woman gave the information, only later to recognize that the behavior was suspicious. After checking the caller ID, the resident realized that the call had come from Texas, and not from Michigan. Porter County police Sgt. Larry LaFlower stated that the incident serves as a precautionary tale about giving personal information over the phone. LaFlower suggests that calling the company back at a trusted number, not whoever is identifying as a representative, is the safest route to ensure the authenticity of the representative. A Morgan Township resident also reported getting a call from an individual who said there were several criminal charges pending against her. The caller stated that if she did not “take care of the situation,” the police would be called. A 76-year-old Morgan Township woman reported getting a phone call from a man claiming to work for a Mega Millions lottery company. The man stated that she had been automatically entered by a third-party because she paid her utilities on time and she needed to buy a $200 gift card to claim her prize. There is a similar warning of those who approach individuals who are claiming they need money for an emergency. These scammers often attempt to trade a gift card for half-price. Anyone who falls for the rouse quickly finds out that there is no money value on the card. About Get Any Private Info:
