(Hosting-NewsWire.com, September 28, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- The website Reddit broke a record when it hosted a Q-and-A featuring President Barack Obama. The site topped out at over 200,000 visits during the president’s “Ask Me Anything” event in August.
Obama had sent out a tweet announcing the session and providing a link to the thread at Reddit. The thread got more than 12,900 comments and 1.8 million subscribers.
Although the 7-year-old site slowed down, it did not crash.
Obama told participants that his hardest presidential decision has been to expand America’s military presence in Afghanistan. He also urged a jobless graduate to have faith in the economy.
Reddit users were an exacting audience for Obama. When in response to a question about NASA, the president wrote, “We are focused on a potential mission to a asteroid,” one user corrected him: “An asteroid, Mr. President.”
Reddit’s general manager told the Los Angeles Times that the Q-and-A helped show off his site’s assets.
“Your question can be seen by the president based on the votes of those in the community regardless of how many followers you have or if your question is picked by some sort of moderation team,” Erik Martin said.
He added that although 2012 has been a good year for Reddit, his company does not have any other high-profile visitors scheduled.
