(Hosting-NewsWire.com, August 23, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Following a number of complaints about piracy on the internet, Google has decided to make necessary changes in their search engine algorithm to eradicate the chances of piracy from its website or search results. With this improved mechanism, the Google search engine algorithm will discourage and avoid showing those web results which contain pirated material.
Piracy is an unauthorized duplication of an original recording or content on the internet. For the past few years, piracy has increased rapidly due to the advancement of technology and therefore it seemed like there would be no escape from it. Right now there is a lot of pirated content available and the internet users can access that pirated data in an instant through search engines like Google, Yahoo or Bing (previously MSN).
The Music and Film industry are the biggest victims of piracy because content thieves duplicate the original content and launch it free on the internet, which not only infringes the copyrights but also becomes the reason for financial loss to the creators of the original content. Complaints were mostly forwarded by both groups of victims because they have been hit the most by the internet.
Amit Singhal, who is the Senior Vice President of Engineering at Google, made an announcement lately about the revamp of their search engine algorithm. He announced that Google will implement necessary changes to algorithms so that people’s access to the pirated content could be stopped or at least lessened.
The new improvements made to the algorithm will make it stricter in regards to the selection of the results and how it displays on the web. The algorithm will make sure that the most accurate and authentic source of the original content is displayed as a result of the search.
CEO of Recording Industry Association of America, Cary Sherman, appreciated the step taken by Google and said that this change is an important step in the right direction.
However, the changes in the algorithm will definitely affect many other domains like the torrent sites. As the new modifications will filter the results through putting in a keyword, bloggers and online publishers will have to wait for their results to be shown. Meanwhile, these alterations will benefit original content holders as well as bolstering the government’s attempts to eradicate piracy.
