(Hosting-NewsWire.com, July 31, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Direct-to-Home (DTH) television technology has increased drastically over the past decade and an online study confirms that the viewership of satellite based television will increase in manifolds till 2017.
The study highlights the fact that many factors have played a major role in promotion of this trend and is likely to further add viewers from countries such as India, Indonesia and Brazil.
Statistics at the end of 2011 showed 154 million subscribers of DTH technology and across 80 countries, up from the 91 million users recorded at the end of 2007.
Over the next five years, the number of subscribers are expected to jump by another 66 million users with India expected to add 22.8 million in the total. The growing population of India aided by the educational advancement in the country is a major factor for this trend.
Following India in this trend will be Brazil, which is expected to add 7.6 million DTH users by 2017. The recent economic uprising of this Latin American state and the fact that much of the activity is away from the continent gives strong ground to the probability. Indonesia is expected to add around 6.7 million users to the tally during the same time frame.
Currently, South Africa has the highest viewership of DTH, capturing almost 60 percent of the total market followed by Poland at 45 percent and Ireland at 44 percent.
Speaking of its comparison with conventional cable networks, DTH is popular among 11.1 percent of the TV households. This number is expected to increase by at least three percent over the next five years and with it, overtake revenues in comparison to cable TV networks.
