(Hosting-NewsWire.com, July 10, 2012 ) Fort Washington, Pennsylvania -- Expensive eye tracking systems have already been in commercial use for decades. These systems cost tens of thousands of dollars. BLiNK is offering an affordable alternative: an eye tracker for under $200. The product is set to launch before the end of 2012 and the developers are reaching out for pledges and support.
Devon Greco, inventor of BLiNK, became interested in developing an affordable eye tracking system after his father was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in 2009. With a technology background, Greco realized that millions of severely disabled worldwide could greatly benefit from an affordable eye tracker. Other uses include speeding up general computer control by 60%, gaming, marketing and web design.
BLiNK is essentially a wearable computer mouse that the user controls with their eye gaze. It has been developed for a Windows platform, and works with most laptops, desktops, and tablets. Soon it should also be compatible with Macs and iPads. The eye tracker will work with almost all programs on Windows. It is compatible with Facebook, Word, Youtube, texting and surfing the web.
Although BLiNK is useful to every computer user, Greco is most excited with the humanitarian benefits of this system. “While we are excited about the benefits that BLiNK will bring to the average computer user, the ability to provide this life-changing technology to potentially millions impacted by catastrophic injury or disease is what really makes it all worthwhile for me,” says Greco.
BLiNK has a sleek, portable design. It is lightweight and can be attached to frameless lens or eye glasses. Developers of BLiNK have simplified the advanced technology that expensive eye tracking systems use and made it more affordable. Miniaturizing the components reduced BLiNK’s footprint.
The developers behind BLiNK are now looking for support on crowdfunding websites such as Indiegogo. Crowdfunding allows companies like BLiNK to accept monetary pledges and input into their product development. The initial cost for a pledge is $199. Software development kits will soon be available for developers.
