(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 14, 2013 ) New York, NY -- Twitter now wants everyone to know that TweetDeck is its best and most powerful weapon.... and you simply cannot have it.
That is, you cannot have it if you are using an Android phone or an iPhone. In a statement released, the company stated:
TweetDeck is the most powerful Twitter tool for tracking real-time conversations. Its flexibility and customizable layout let you keep up with whatÂ’s happening on Twitter, across multiple topics and accounts, in real time. To continue to offer a great product that addresses your unique needs, weÂ’re going to focus our development efforts on our modern, web-based versions of TweetDeck. To that end, we are discontinuing support for our older apps: TweetDeck AIR, TweetDeck for Android and TweetDeck for iPhone. They will be removed from their respective app stores in early May and will stop functioning shortly thereafter. WeÂ’ll also discontinue support for our Facebook integration.
The explanation, one may notice, does not exactly add up properly. Underlying the shift is the notion that earlier version of the TweetDeck utilized older Twitter API.
The discontinuing of Facebook integration is certainly a strategic movie, but not a tactical one. Twitter is looking to consolidate control if its blogging platform and gearing up for a general showdown with the once-courted competitor. It is possible that Twitter also is looking to avoiding the case of being beholden to the vagaries of Apple and Google's application stores, and will focus on development efforts on Web applications hence forth.
Regarding its mobile clients, it may simply be the case that the power useres who are TweetDeck's audience simply are not using the mobile version. “Over the past few years, we’ve seen a steady trend towards people using TweetDeck on their computers and Twitter on their mobile devices,” Twitter wrote.
