(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 07, 2013 ) Basingstoke, U.K -- The online giant, Google, is now readying itself to attempt and “steal online retail from Amazon,” according to Marcus Wohlston of Wired.
Wohlson wrote in a recent article that Google's position to do just that can be described as a “pretty high perch from which to take aim.
Large retailers do not have the incentive to work with Amazon, while they do have particular reason to team up with the world's No. 1 search engine. The evidence of the lack of such incentive for Amazon is seen as evidenced by the struggles the company has experienced attempting to break into fashion. The large brands do not want to lose their identity by working with Amazon, and they already have their own stores to push their own name.
What the brands do want is more ability to show up on searches, and that gives Google considerable leverage when talking about working with them.
The San Francisco business Inkling is now working with Google to try and out-due the Amazon Kindle, according to Wired. Simultaneously, Bloomrach is helping companies optimize search results so that it will show up on Google before showing up on Amazon.
An e-commerce company named Shoprunner has doubled its own sales within a single year by improve its Google search results. At the same time, the company executive Fiona Dias stated that she is still rather wary of Google's general power.
“Google will likely evolve from a friend of retailers to a foe,” she said. “Google Shopping just needs a ‘buy now’ button to become a retailer rival.”
Google's aggressive e-commerce bid could put Amazon in big trouble, wrote Kerry Folan at Racked.
"Google wants to get in on Amazon's online retail domination, and that they're in a unique position to do just that, seeing as Google essentially still runs the internet," Folan wrote. "At the end of the day, customers just want their stuff."
