(Hosting-NewsWire.com, December 19, 2012 ) San Francisco- It turns out that Britain's obsession with their respective mobile devices help place them at the top of the list when it comes to mobile internet. The placement likely has a lot to do with smartphone sales explosion, mixed with online media, as well as online videos and music downloads.
The UK has overtaken Japan as the number-one user of mobile internet use, according to figured from media regulator Ofcom. The company has compared data from the top 17 most developed nations across the globe.
The release noted that the UK has a record 424 megabytes of data each month, which signifies a 60% leap from 2011.
Britain's apparent necessity of checking Facebook and Twitter also pushes the country to be the leader of the world in terms of mobile use online. The usage of both online sites is up 62% for those between the ages of 18 and 24.
UK consumers also use online Television options more than any other nation, at the tune of 25% of all users. Brits are even increasingly using their mobile devices to view such material.
Total time spent online has dropped somewhat, from 746 to 728 minutes per week. Australians spend more time online than any other country, with just a hair under 1,000 (922 to be exact) minutes per week.
The British citizens are not only spending time online, however, but also spending high sums. The average person who can be described as a consumer is spending more than $1,200-per-year online. That makes the UK number one when it comes to online shopping totals. That total is a 46% rise since 2007, and up 14% since 2010.
It also appears that Brits are not afraid to make a purchase on-the-go, as 23% have visited retail sites from a mobile device.
Director of Research James Thickett, from Ofcom, stated that UK tradition of bargain-hunting plays a part in the high numbers. He noted the entire country does have a history of embracing technological change for the better.
“We have a long history of catalogue shopping in the UK, and as many daily activities are increasingly carried out online, the internet has become the new destination for many shoppers,” says Thickett.
