(Hosting-NewsWire.com, October 28, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- EBay is getting a fresh design and features inspired by social media.
The goal is to make it easier for shoppers to browse and buy, said the online commerce company’s president, Devin Wenig.
“We’re delivering a cleaner, contemporary look and feel; a more intuitive, convenient way to browse, decide and buy, both globally and locally, and a new personal way to curate your own shopping experience and discover items perfect for you,” Wenig told AFP.
EBay users will be able to get a “personalized homepage,” with recommendations tailored to past purchases or interests, and a “newsfeed” intended to help them navigate the site, which boasts 105 million active users. Users also will be able to “follow” brands or products. And photos on the redesigned website, calling to mind the Pinterest social network, aim to make the shopping experience more inviting.
Much of the pleasure of online shopping has died, said eBay chief technical officer Mark Carges, but “we are reintroducing all those elements.”
Customizable features will help users sort out the millions of daily sales. The site will allow links to Facebook pages and embedded video from YouTube.
The marketplace is evolving, Wenig said, and eBay is staying abreast of consumers’ needs. “In a connected commerce world,” the eBay president said, “consumers shouldn’t care whether the product they want is at a neighborhood store or in a shopkeeper’s window halfway around the world.”
The future of commerce is multichannel and mobile, Wenig said. “Customers want to move seamlessly across devices, through any shopping environment,” he said.
About 10,000 vehicles are sold each week in the United States on eBay mobile, the company says, and mobile devices surpass desktop computers in time spent on the site. About WebBoxDesigners.co.uk:
