(Hosting-NewsWire.com, October 16, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- A video of a woman’s “sleep-dancing” netted 8 million views on YouTube within a few days.
“That boggles my mind,” said Nicola Foti, who captured his mother’s unconscious performance in their home in central New Jersey, where he earns money operating four YouTube channels.
Despite his experience with video, Foti had not planned his most successful work to date. “I went down to the kitchen for some tea, it’s completely dark and I hear this rustling,” he said. “My mom is in the dining area and she’s wiggling. She mumbled something. I thought this is going to be too funny, so I took my iPhone out of my pocket and started recording.”
The follow-up video of his mother, Patricia Foti, reacting to the sleepwalking clip has received even more views.
“One thing I want to make clear is that my mom is not mad about this,” said Foti, who is 27 and lives at home. “My mom is the funniest, she has the best sense of humour, she is the best sport, not just a good sport.”
Such a good sport that she accompanied her son on his next shoot for the video “The Cinnamon Challenge,” to find out if they could swallow a tablespoon of the spice.
The experiment did not go well. “It sucks all the moisture out of your mouth,” she said. “ It’s horrible.”
Foti, who started posting videos on his first YouTube channel Soundly Awake four years ago, has been making ad revenue money since January 2009. Three months later he lost his customer service job when Home Depot closed its Expo Design Center stores.
Today Foti has four channels - one featuring comedy, another a reality show, a cooking how-to show and a beauty and style guide - with hundreds of thousands of international subscribers. He said the ad revenue allows him to “pay my bills and go out to eat. I just finally paid off my student loans,” he said.
As for the sensation surrounding the video of his mother, Foti said, “stuff like this doesn’t last long. I’m going to try to keep doing this as long as I can. Social media things change. Later in life, when YouTube dies, I think I’d like to be a teacher.”
