(Hosting-NewsWire.com, October 08, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Google has announced dozens of changes to its search formula for August and September, but the list leaves out at least one major change.
The search engine giant listed 65 changes to its algorithm in the past two months but left out an “exact match domain” update that was referred to in late September. Google says that word of this update didn’t make it in time for the company’s most recent announcement.
“These changes were rolled out very recently,” Google said, “and their launch language was approved after the cutoff date where we were finalizing the blog post.
“We tweeted these changes and were also planning to include those launches in future updates,” a spokesperson for the company told Search Engine Watch.
SEW said there was a Panda update Sept. 27 and a Sept. 18 Panda data refresh that was announced in a tweet.
SEW said that Google might be referring to Panda in this September change entry: “#84394. [project ‘Page Quality’] This launch helped you find more high-quality content from trusted sources.”
The “Page Quality” project has included Panda- and Penguin-related algorithm changes in the past, SEW reported.
A Sept. 28 tweet by Matt Cutts referred to an upcoming exact match domain update, and some think it took effect that day or on Sep. 27, but it might have been confused with Panda.
SEW said the EMD update was not officially confirmed, and there has been no clarification from Cutts.
Changes announced by Google included improved Web ranking to determine relevant pages for queries containing locations, better display of the local time search feature, fewer results for some queries to display relevant results more quickly, addition of a lists and collections component to the Knowledge Graph and optimization of Flight Search for tablet users.
