(Hosting-NewsWire.com, October 04, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- A new study shows that more holiday shoppers will be forgoing the malls and brick-and-mortar storefronts this year. Instead, shoppers are likely fall in-favor of doing their shopping online. A new study says that more than 75% of holiday gift-buyers intend to do their holiday-season shopping from the comfort of their PCs or mobile devices.
The online-buying trend seems to be strongest in the youngest shopping demographics: Roughly 90% of survey respondents between the ages of 18 and 34 report that they intend to do their holiday shopping online this year. Senior shoppers are also doing more online shopping, as 48% of shoppers surveyed over the age of 65 say they will shop online over the holidays.
This might be good news for those that hate the packed parking lots after Thanksgiving; however, small businesses might not be as pleased as 60% of online shoppers claim that they intend to buy their holiday gifts from larger, corporate stores. This may be because of a preponderance of big-name advertisements on the front pages of online search results.
Smaller online businesses may see a boost from higher-income potential customers. Shoppers with a yearly income over $100,000, as well as shoppers without children, say they would prefer to shop with smaller online outlets and dealers.
The study was conducted by Deluxe Corp. via a countrywide survey of 1,032 adults.
